Favorite Idaho Sport Climbing Crags
|
I am currently living in Boise, Idaho, so this might be somewhat specific to the Southwest & central parts of Idaho. But... I'd like to know some of your favorite crags outside of the treasure valley. Over the last few years, I have made trips out to the City of Rocks, the Fins, Hell's canyon, and Burnt River Canyon, black cliffs, as well as several small basalt crags in eastern Idaho (Paramount, Pointless). I am planning to visit those again and make trips to new areas. So far on my list I have Leslie Gulch, Pins & Needles, The Thinking Spot, and around Dierkes/ Shoshone Falls.I'd really just like to hear how others have enjoyed these areas, or what areas have become your favorites? Likes and Dislikes?I personally really enjoyed the scenery of Hells Canyon and how quiet it was. Despite the limited beta, the rock quality I climbed on, and hiking was amazing. Simply wondering around in nature and ending up at an enjoyable route was a pleasant change of pace compared to the black cliffs. |

If you are going to be near American Falls, Teddy Bear Cove is a great place to climb. It has a large selection of moderate routes. The ones I have climbed are all well bolted. It is south facing basalt and can get warm during the day. On cooler days, it is amazing. I haven't been to Massacre Rocks, but I've heard great things about it too. |

Austin teddy bear has lot more then south aspects it has walls that are east and west facing send town is in the shade in the evening. It’s also a great place to learn how to crack climb. But if you’re planning a all day trip out here I’d wait till the late fall/winter I like dierkes a lot it’s very fun and pumpy! and the bouldering is pretty fun and convenient to do circuits but like teddy bear it’s better all day in the late fall/ winter. Also how can someone from NC only climb sport?! That’s blasphemy are you really from north cackalacky? :) Get a rack and you’ll enjoy the black cliffs more it’s really good crack climbing. |

Riggins is a great area that gets overlooked but has a lot of variety and wide range of difficulty. |
