Best Climbing Pants?

In the market for some new trousers, curious as to peoples takes. My criteria is maximum durability and stretchiness, and also I gotta have a zip thigh pocket for my phone on multi pitches. Also a fan of a straighter fit, I think it looks silly when pants are tight around my calves. An ankle sinch is nice too. |

Love the discontinued Prana Cragg. Anyway the softer Stretch Zion are also quite good. |

https://en.montbell.jp/products/goods/disp.php?product_id=1105681 Montbell cliff pants. Just got these. MUCH tougher material than prana pants. Feel like they'll last super long. Zipper pockets large enough for phone (one on thigh). Super impressed with the quality of em. High stepping no issue with the gusseted legs. just pay attention to size guide. |

Arc Gamma pants are amazing. Spendy, but you can check their outlet site to see if they have past seasons’ colors in your size. |

Personally I think ankle cinches should have no place in climbing pants, as one of the poor unfortunate souls who has had them get clipped into protection. |

Wrangler outdoor flex pants, these things don’t die and only cost $18 when on sale. I’ve had the same pair for over 4 years and are just now showing some light scuffs on the fabric. They have probably seen 500 pitches between gym, sandstone, granite, and quartzite. |

Slim Pickens wrote: Seconding the Arc Gamma, specifically the AR version. They're a bit warm for summer climbing and heavy to boot, but I wear them for all my climbing like October through May. Had my current pair for 6 or 7 years, and they are only now starting to show their age. I bought them when I first started climbing and couldn't believe I was going to drop $200 on a pair of pants. At this point, I'm probably at pennies per wear. Will absolutely be buying another pair when these ones finally give up the ghost. |

If you like the Gamma AR. These aren't the most stylish, but same kind of 4 way stretch fabric as the Gamma AR, but burlier. I have some Gamma ARs and prefer these. Insane price right now at $50 bucks if they have your size left. They have other items on super sale right now too. |

I agree with the Wrangler Outdoor Flex. Usually found at Walmart as well! |

Shout out for the Kuhl Renegade Rock pants. I've tried Prana Zions, Wrangler ATG (great price, but just so-so fit and features), dead bird pants (tops are awesome and fit like a glove; pants, not so much), Outdoor Research Ferrosi, as well as several models of Kuhls, most recently the Kuhl Deceptr pants, which are great for comfort but fall short in durability. Can't say any of these are bad pants. When I had to replace my blown out Renegade Rock pants--got about three years of continuous abuse, which I judge to be quite good--I tried a number of different brands. Came back to the Renegade Rock pants. Love the six pockets, especially the two side leg pockets for phone, etc. Fabric is 95% nylon and 5% spandex, so they're burley with enough stretch for freedom of movement. If you can get them on sale or at a discount, they're even better. Highly recommend. |

Coalatree is a smaller company with some awesome comfortable pants. Ive had two pairs for 3 years now. Use them for everything from multipitch climbing to backpacking all year. I've taken them canyoneering too and they hold up well to the sandstone abuse. Sadly, they dont have a zipper pocket for the phone but I thought I would mention them anyway. https://coalatree.com/?g_network=x&g_productchannel=&g_adid=&g_locinterest=9029758&g_keyword=&g_campaign=account&g_adtype=&g_keywordid=&g_ifcreative=&g_acctid=662-849-7733&g_locphysical=9029749&g_adgroupid=&g_productid=&g_source={sourceid}&g_merchantid=&g_placement=&g_partition=&g_campaignid=17521165376&g_ifproduct=&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAjeW6BhBAEiwAdKltMhI1TURWgj7nxxabkpbVwsvTMuXx2ZJ6dOJzOXnIg7iAmUpzuNmCqBoCNnYQAvD_BwE |
