Tenaya Indalo Vs Mastia

TL; DR has anyone tried both, and how do they differ from personal experience, not just marketing jargon.

I tried on some Tenaya Mastias, and they fit pretty well, really comfortable! My one gripe is that the heel is a little loose on the sides. Is the Indalo heel much different? Is it narrower? I’ve heard it’s shallower but not narrower. Is the whole shoe a lot narrower, and would it accommodate a wider foot than you’d think looking at them?

Hey there - both models have thermally-molded heel cups, but the Indalo will have a slightly narrower fit than the Mastia, so the Indalo may work out better for your foot shape. The Mastia is definitely a high-volume shoe, and the Indalo is more mid-volume. I have a wider foot (not super wide) and have climbed in both and really like both, with a slight preference for the Indalo. Full disclosure, I work for Trango (US distributor for Tenaya) and have spent a good chunk of time running shoe demos. Our team of reps frequently run gym demos and the Mastia and Indalo are frequently in their fleets - feel free to shoot me a DM if you want some help finding a demo near you!

+1 to what Erin said.

If you use the other tenaya shoes (tarifa, oasi, iati), the indalo has a more similar fit compared to the mastia, though still higher volume than those models.

Echoing what others have said with some personal context:

I love the mastia. I have a relatively low volume and narrow heel and a broad forefoot. For my ideally sizes mastia, the toe box is accommodating yet still leaves my foot in a powerful position and the heel is snug. At the same size, the indalo is too tight around my little toes to the point of pain, but the heel fits nice. Going up a half size in the indalo the toe box fits better but the heel has some dead space. In terms of perceived performance, I didn't notice any difference between the heel of the mastia vs indalo.

I prefer the mastia for my foot geometry.

Cool! Thanks guys! I got to climb a bit in my friend’s Mastias, and I like em. The heel is baggy, but it doesn’t seem like it’s gonna slip off or anything. They’re one of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever tried on. Most shoes crush my middle toe and crush my heel. Mastias do not! I think I’ll go with the Mastias!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
