This has been popping up. But when I do “ connect to onX” and try to login with my existing MP email and password, it says the account information is wrong. Yet I’m logged in on MP. What is going on?

Same here. It's getting annoying.

Can you all try [ this link ] for updating your account and let me know if that works? or if you're still having trouble?
We're still working on the pop-up. We're also working to update our login system and some users may be getting that notification more frequently than others. We'll get that fixed, once an account has been updated the pop up should not show again.

I’m on the road. I’ll try next week when I’m home and have my computer. Thanks!

So, if I'm understanding these popups correctly, we now need to have an OnX account to access the site. Is that right? Or can we decline to create an OnX account (perhaps missing out on some additional features)?

I don’t know the official stance but I just close the pop up and continue using the site like normal.

Dwayne, do I need to create an additional onX account?
Will I lose my access to Mountainproject if I do not create one?

"needed" is too strong of a word. Will talk to them about updating the verbiage. In order to connect you will need to create an onX account if you do not have one, if you have one you can use the existing account. Your account will not go away if you do not create one. However, we are working to update the authentication system, and once that update is complete your existing account would need to be updated to use the new system. Hopefully that's helps clarify some?

Well personally that’s incomprehensible to me. but I guess it will eventually become clear.

I thought I had created an onX account, but then if I’m remembering correctly while I was doing it it asked me to sign a terms of agreement which gave onX the right to use anything I posted for whatever purpose they wanted. So I may have closed the screen and not completed the process.
The language basically was saying that if I, for example, posted a photo of my original artwork or a photo I took to share with friends, OnX would have the right to use it anyway they wanted. Like to make a T-shirt or a poster and sell it. At least that’s the way I read it. Not that you would want to, but you would have the right too.
I’ll have to try it again and screen shot the agreement and send it to someone who can interpret it, legally.

I was also confused by this process and the differences (if any) between these two accounts.

This switch will likely greatly impact the forums - might even kill them...

The updated authentication system will have no impact on the forums.

So an onX account won't be needed to access the forums?

To clarify, you will still need to log in to participate in the forums. When we switch to the new login system, which will be soon, accounts will need to be updated to use that system. The wizard is there to help walk users through the update and clean up some confusion. It's the same Mountain Project profile, just with a new updated login.

I try to link the onx account I dont want to have and I get the following error:

An adventure project account is already associated with stuff@windblown.us. Please use login with stuff@windblown.us and connect to onX.

Do my MP and the onx account I dont want to have need to have the same email address?

Any update on the terms for posted materials?

I decided it wasn’t worth bothering about, I never figured out if my interpretation was correct.  My solution is just to never again post any content I care about.

It wouldn’t surprise me if that language was added with an eye towards future subscription cost to use the app or even the online database. I doubt it’s really about MP putting Blitzo’s photos on  T-shirt.

Today I was asked to create a OnX account.
I tried to use the same e-mail address as for my Mountainproject account and was told that "Can't associate two accounts with the same e-mail address."

WTF?
Is this for real?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
