OR crack gloves Velcro not sticking?

I love the original OR splitter gloves, but in the last couple months the Velcro has deteriorated to the point where they’re always coming off mid-route. The point of the gloves were for me to not have to waste tape, so I don’t wanna have to tape them closed each time I use them. Anyone have an alternative solution to keeping these gloves from coming off? Thought about sewing on buttons but they would probably get ripped off when jamming.

I try to forego crack gloves but then I get tired of my hands looking necrotic so there’s no need for the hubristic post telling me to just not use them. I get it, it really does make crack climbing a grade easier. I don’t care.

Same thing happens to my BD gloves. One strip of tape across the Velcro strap is nothing compared to tape gloves.

That one strip works so well they don’t come off all day.

Same issue on my BD gloves due to the hook-side being abraded by rock - I took a strip of 1/4" velcro that you can get at any fabric/craft supplier and sewed a strip of the hook side on top of the abraded native velcro. It makes the strap a bit thicker and harder to get through the eye of the glove, but it works pretty well.

I always had to tape velcro crack gloves anyway or I'd undo them at some point when it was not ideal...so I started making my own without the velcro as it was worthless.

Personally harvested buckskin. They are amazing if do say so myself.
I make them custom for people sometimes in exchange for digital dollars.

Big Red that’s so simple it’s brilliant- might give that a shot! Doesn’t seem like any of these glove companies use name brand Velcro- which is easy to clean off debris and the eye hook material is sturdier.

Woah, those buckskin gloves are rad!!! I imagine with some leather conditioner they’d last a long time- buckskin is pretty strong. They probably don’t stretch out in the finger hole areas either. Very nice.

Probably not helpful but I’ve never experienced velcro failure with ocun crack gloves.

my original set is on 2 years with zero extra care.... I thought they would fare much worse!
With some actual care they would probably do even better.

I got some inspiration to do it when I saw the G7 ones. Through my research goat skin is one of the strongest leathers and also very thin, so may try some of that one of these days.

I’ve had the same issue with almost every crack glove I’ve tried - BD, Ocun, Metolius, etc. This is obviously a less than ideal solution, but I just buy a new pair every 6 mo - year or so as needed. It’s a pretty small price to pay to not have to worry about your glove coming off mid climb.

What’s the closure system on the buckskin gloves?

What up Nico.
Its tape on the wrist like you can see in the picture of me wearing them.
Why?
I always had to tape the closure on all types of crack gloves to keep them from coming undone.... so I just eliminated the shit that never worked for me anyway.

I would likely be willing to add velcro / other types of closures to the wrist....

Just keep sending the gloves back to OR and they’ll keep sending you new pairs.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
