MSR Pot Recall
|
https://www.msrgear.com/pot-recall.html What’s the Hazard? The pot handle of select cook pots can come loose or disengaged, potentially spilling contents, including hot liquids, and creating a burn hazard. Which Products Are Affected? MSR® Trail Lite™ and Reactor® camping cooking pots, sold individually and as part of sets, including Trail Lite cook sets, PocketRocket® cook kits, and Reactor stove systems. See the chart and images below to identify your cook pot. What Should I Do? Affected consumers in the US and Canada should immediately stop using the recalled camping cooking pot/s and contact Cascade Designs for a free replacement pot handle/lifter that is compatible with the affected pot. The replacement pot handle/lifter is secure, easy to use and does not require tools. Please do not attempt to return recalled products in store. All returns will be processed online. |

That's why they were on sale I guess. Would be nice to know what the cause of failure is, so I can inspect what I've got. I don't want to just get a pot gripper from their warranty department. |

Explains a lot. That may be why I burned my foot lifting the pan. |

I’ve had my MSR 1.7 liter pot for 10 years. The pot handle occasionally and unexpectedly pops off. It has only happened when swinging the handle from close to open or maybe the reverse. That has not happened with the pot full and hot, maybe because in those circumstances I just keep the handle open. I’ll attach a pic of the handle including attachment point to the pot. No visible damage. Just a design issue in my case. |

This handle has always been hard for me to use…good stove terrible handle |

Rivets are bomber. Happens so seldom and sudden, not clear how. I guess I could try to reproduce. Suspect a little axial torque on the handle may allow a dog to slip past a spring, if that makes sense. High confidence it’s stable when holding a full pot by the already open handle. |

MSR has a much better handle design they use with some of their other pots— all they need to do to update the reactor is riveting a different bracket on. |
|
So there’s T that’s part of the riveted mount, and its tabs have the springy metal T tabs that are curved and bent tucked underneath. When the handle is rotated over, its T hooks under that. I bet it wears, or its radius changes so the handle T slips out from under so it can fall off. Seems like there's no reason to not pry the mount T tabs a bit more forward. They would not be in the way and then would be a more positive catch for the handle's tabs. |

it's a bad design, always has been. I've had many issues with it over the years. No reason not to update it to a fixed handle. The fixed arms on the pot wear out and then the handle is suspect at best, or doesn't even stay in there. I suspect they'll update it immediately. Nice to get some new pot grips though in the recall. |

It's about time they did something about that bad design. |
