Please spread awareness of the danger of climbing at this location.  Here is a video from the security camera recorded Tuesday February 20th, 2024 following the recent rains.

Damn.

When did they put that playground/field in?!? I guess I haven't climbed there in quite awhile, eh? (The potential rockfall being one of the reasons)

Too bad, I sure did love that place. Wonder what fell off.

Thanks.

Lennar Homes built the park/playground as part of their master planned development. Park was finished early last year of 2023.

This place killed the guy not too far back, just stay off this thing forever.

Do you know if some part of the vertical wall broke off? Or did something just tumble down from above? Practically all crags are subject to rock fall during and right after storms if there’s something upslope of the wall… we just don’t usually have a security camera monitoring the wall 24/7.

Looks like it came from up above, above the face with any routes. Not that that would be any less deadly, but at least a feature didn't fall off.

@andrew Not sure about that, after looking at the video more closely, it could have been from above and not the vertical wall itself, however, it appears the debris fell near the approach trail nonetheless. As rock climbing has its inherent risks and dangers, I’m only sharing this video to help climbers make smart decisions in where to climb. I myself have not climbed here, though I’ve wanted to.

Bryon - thanks for posting that video. The quarry was made by blasting deep down behind the main face. The entire place is extremely unstable and just ready to topple over. I don’t know who bribed who to get the OK to build houses at the bottom. As any climber knows “you don’t bivouac below a serac”

Recent rockfall from above the Slander Sector; not sure if any routes have been affected.

There's still water running down the rock all over the Quarry and it wouldn't be surprising if another large rockfall were to occur soon. Stay safe out there!

@andrew

Everything from vertigo (far right end of the torture machine area) to baby face (in the slander sector) should be avoided. Heavy rock fall from the rim has left some unstable rock that could dislodge. Check out the slander sector page for photos of the affected area.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
