2024 Face Shield for ice climbing? (fits on helmet)

I have a special need for a face shield for ice climbing.  You see these all the time while climbing, but they seemed to have disappeared from the usual internet retailers.

***Any suggestion of how to get my hands on one, even if I have to buy a dang new helmet to fit it, would be much appreciated, and as soon as you can.

If you can find new-old stock pre 2019 petzl vizen or vizer industrial face shields, they use the same peg mounting system as petzl’s recreational (vizion) face shield that’s been out of stock everywhere.

Alternatively, get one of petzl’s current industrial helmets and face shields.

Kask industrial helmets. I think Kask is leading the market for general contractors in our local market making the change from traditional hardhats to helmets. Helmets and accessories (including face shields) are top notch.

I actually asked Petzl if the helmets that go with the Vizion face shields are UIAA approved - they said no.  So, I'm a bit afraid of risking a head injury for the sake of preventing face cuts.

At this point, I'm thinking of getting the Vizion and trying to hack it to fit on my Elios helmet (epoxy? duct tape? Whatever it takes.)

Has anyone seen an actual Vizion in the wild? It looks weird in the pictures, like it extends down to the neck and would restrict movement and fog up terribly.

This "face shield on a strap only" looks wacky, I have no idea if I could make it fit on my helmet: https://www.newmoonski.com/product/bliz-optics-snow-visor-5543.htm?utm_source=google%20shopping&utm_medium=organic&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA8YyuBhBSEiwA5R3-Ey7L97s3vrBrlp-uiEofkjs_BGUYKonspeCMvIyrN0VzWDTNXc4VhxoClzUQAvD_BwE#ProductReviews

Anyways, thanks to any and all replys (at a reasonable snark limit).

Vizion (and pre-2019 vizer, vizen) fit scirocco, meteor, and elios, which all meet EN/UIAA specs.

industrial rope access equipment is tested to different standards that generally exceed standards for recreational climbing gear.

Thanks for this Eli, but ... it appears as though *I* wrote the wrong name - the Vizion is what I really want, what would fit my Elios Helmet, but it is out of stock everywhere. I found one on-line in Europe, but I don't think I can trust that, they're probably really out of stock.

***If anyone has a vizion to sell, or knows where I could bet one, I would be ever so grateful. ***

Currently, only the Vizen  (NOT the vizion) is available.  I have no doubt that Eli is correct, that the helmets that go with it, they would probably be quite robust.  I'm just worried that they may not be quite as ideal for climbing (they might lack some refinement specific to climbing, impacts from a certain angle or something), and they may be heavy. If I learn anything on that score I'll let everyone know.

I think you might want to revisit your priorities if you're willing to hack something together with epoxy and duct tape but you aren't willing to use industrial helmets from the same supplier as a climbing helmet.  I think you're right that there are compromises to climbing helmets that make them more fashionable in climbing circles but I don't think a climbing helmet is going to perform substantially better than an industrial helmet when climbing ice.  Visors seem to have fallen out of fashion on ice, if you're going to be the oddball with the visor then you might as well be the oddball with an industrial helmet as well.

FWIW I've considered the newest range of Milwaukee industrial helmets because they are cheaper than climbing helmets (probably due to economies of scale) and have an available visor plus a lot of other useful accessories.

The Petzl Strato (or Strato Vent) could be a good option. It uses foam on the top 3/4 instead of the traditional hard hat style webbing. I use on at work and like it, doesn’t look too goofy and is compatible w/ visors and other industrial accessories.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
