So, I have the Salewa Ortles Ascent boots. Until now, I've been using the Grivel G12 New-Matic EVO crampons (semi-automatic). Haven't had any issues with those. Now, I've purchased the G14 Cramp-O-Matic EVO (automatic) + the additional front bail (C2N bail), because I'd like to use them on the Salewa boots first, but I'm also planning on buying some boots compatible with automatic crampons later on.
First of all, changing the toe bails was a disaster. It took me a long time + a lot of strength to succeed, but now I'm not even sure, if they fit my boots. I'm including some pictures for you to see.
Does the front of the boot come too far on the crampon? And is the back tight enough? They are fixated on the boot, but I still feel like they don't fit as well as the G12 did.
Try moving them back a slot, should make them sit tighter and push the boot further back. Also if you have a vice, the easiest way to get these off is to put a piece of cord or webbing behind the bail curve and pull.
Looking at the toe straps on that binding, I can't imagine any boot being held back in"the right" place. I guess if you're just using them for flat glacier walking they'd be OK. But those crampons have vertical frontpoints; you need a different front binding style.

WRT bail changes: sometimes girth hitching a sling around the bail is helpful. Also note that in many cases the bail has to be a specific position in order to pull through the hole.

Maybe those Petzl toe baskets would work, the kind they sell with Lynx? Just noticed they have a “Fil Flex small”.
Thanks to all of you for replying! I'm planning on using them not just for glacier walking but mostly for climbing, so I'll definitely need to figure this one out. I'm going to try moving the front back today and we'll see how that one's gonna work.
