Getting to Kalymnos

Hey all! I'm going to Kalymnos with friends in September and we're looking at flying into Kos but are a little unsure about the ferry crossing times and coordinating our flight in with the crossings.

Can anyone weigh in on the timings and frequency of the Kos - Kalymnos ferry, and how best to book it?

Thanks in advance!

This site covers the subject better than I could!  They also host timetables here, but you may want to go to the ferry sites directly (at the bottom of the first link I shared).

My own experience: we flew into Kalymnos via Kos (looks like there are also direct flights from Athens to Kalymnos).  The flight in was great, but when departing Kalymnos we had multiple flights and ferries cancelled due to storms.  From talking to locals, it seems like flights are more likely to be cancelled due to weather than ferries.  I wouldn't worry too much though - it was super easy to get help and find new arrangements.  Just be aware that you may be delayed getting to or leaving the island.

Here is the not really paying attention version of how it works.  I've been there in the same time frame as you are going:  fly into Kos.  Take the bus (cheap and fast) or a taxi to the ferry at Mastichari (sp).  Ferry schedule is announced at various points during the season.  It changes.  I know they are in the AM, mid day, maybe a dinner time one and a late one.  If you have a long wait, just hang out and eat fries and drink beer until the next one.  Buy a ticket for the ferry from the little booth down on the pier where the ferry comes in.  Ferry dumps you in Pothia.  Lots of taxis available to take you to your villa from right there.  You can arrange one before hand, have your housing host arrange one, or just get one when you arrive.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
