Heated Socks

Is there an existing thread? Seeking to identify best heated socks for backcountry skiing. Thanks |

Hey Doug! I've used the Lenz socks quite a bit for colder outings. They are spendy, but have done a good job. I've taken them to the summit of Denali on a cold day in Scarpa Alien RS' and they worked well. |

CostCo has some from Karbon that are on good sale, if you have more budget needs; comes as socks and batteries. Toes and forefoot only. |

Lenz socks have really worked for my partner and I backcountry skiing in Canada in -20F https://www.mountainproject.com/forum/topic/123287261/heated-socks-for-arctic-temps

A bit bulkier, but I've had some success with Weston's. https://www.westonstore.com/ |

There appear to be several similar products on the market, all cost about $400/pair with the accessories. They are, Lenz, HotTronic, Therm-ic, and Sidas. Clearly, on this thread the Lenz product gets a good review. Anyone out there have experience with the other options? Thanks. |
|
Another vote for Lenz. My wife has hotTronics, and thinks they are meh. I love the Lenz socks. |
|
Another vote for Lenz - great product and a true game changer for me whilst ice climbing. |

I have the Therm-ic socks and use them for ice and lift served skiing. Have about 20-30 days in them so far they are great. |

If you only have one pair of boots, the heated insoles mean you can ski multiple days in a row without having to wash your socks. |

another vote for Lenz! Be careful putting them on, mine were a bit tight and I ripped a stitch in the heel pretty easily and I thought I was being careful. They warrantied them and gave me a new one though after I explained how easily it ripped. |

Tested the $60 Costco socks today in Valdez. Pretty warm day at around 20 above in the canyon, but I was belaying my girlfriend on a test piece for her so it was an extended period of time standing around. I was impressed with them as they fit well, held a good charge, and kept me toasty on the lowest setting. I’ll get back to you come spring regarding durability, but they pass my initial test! |

I used the Lenz rcB1200 with Toe Cap Slim Fit socks over the 3-day weekend. I skied in-bounds in my Scarpa Terminator Comps. Conditions were cold and windy to warm with lots of snow. My feet have been damaged, including a recent frostnip over the Xmas holidays. I give the socks a B+ at the moment. They kept my feet from getting cold most of the time. I had them set to 5 out of 10 at 3 minute intervals most of the time. For a brief, 30-60 minute period, I had to power them up to 9/10. The socks fit my feet but are tall to accommodate rolling the tops down over the batteries. I'm not tall and long socks add lots of unnecessary fabric. They take about 3 hours to recharge after an 8 hour resort day.

Another vote for Lenz - they're an investment but they were cheaper when used with my single boots in cold weather compared to buying double boots (for ice, not high altitude climbing) |
