Should Virginia be in the list for Southern States?  Right now it says "West Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Maryland, Delaware."

Yes,

So should South Carolina

  • Exactly.  And cut out Maryland and Delaware. There is not an alternate reality where they are ever considered “the south”.

I think its implied that they're included, no need to specifically name every state included. As for Maryland and Delaware I think they're included because most of the famous climbing areas nearby would be in WV, VA, NC. (Seneca, the new, Looking Glass, Old Rag) even most moderately popular sport/trad crags are in neighboring southern states.

Or maybe a new category for Mid-Atlantic?

But in actual reality they are. Using simple geography skills to identify the Mason-Dixon Line is all ya need to do.

Just change it to the fucking best and be done with it

It is funny calling West Virginia the south. As the reason it exists as a state was to side with the union separating from Virginia proper. When saying "the south" most people consider the lines that ended 160 years ago. Nowadays Walmart is everywhere so...

I've been making this point for years, as have many others.  Nothing has ever changed, obviously.

That seems cool but you’d need to add WV to the list, because that’s basically where we all climb and it’s as mid-Atlantic as VA. I am born and raised and currently live on Maryland. I do not consider myself a southerner whatsoever, nor a northerner. But really there’s nothing wrong with the current format aside from some folks being butt hurt their state isn’t in the description. It’s not that hard to figure out. #makingproblemswheretherearntany

I think this problem could be solved and people in the MD/VA/DC/NJ/DE/PA area would benefit from there being a Mid-Atlantic sub forum.

I've also suggested this multiple times.  Good luck getting someone that can make that change to give a shit.

Too bad.  I was thinking it was a bit obvious.

I guess we'll continue to be with our southern brethren then.

Virginia was South of the Mason-Dixon Line which is the defacto means of delineating southern states.. Its a classic Southern State.

The real problem is however you do it, nothing is going to change because roughly 394875432498 people that I know of have made the same recommendation/suggestion/complaint and nothing has changed.  I've been using this site for 14 years.

Maryland is also south of the Mason-Dixon line, and nobody (except MP) considers MD a southern state.

There really should be a Mid-Atlantic region on MP.

Is the southern region forum not dead enough that we need to split it up? There’s no problem with the current format.

Fair point.  Virginia should just be added to the list.

Good point.  It's also unfortunately moot.

I vote Delaware be removed from this site.
