Soft shell jacket “wrinkling” defects

Soft shell jacket question. I have an older Mammut Laser jacket that has been well kept (hanging, cool and dry closet) and used lightly for years. Recently I have started to notice “wrinkles” appearing all over the jacket (see photos). Does anyone know what’s happening here?

It probably has some waterproof membrane that is slowly separating from the face fabric, giving you the bubbles. It’s probably not an issue for those little spots if you care to re-apply a DWR finish. I don’t think modern synthetic textiles were made or tested with long term durability in mind.

Ok I was guessing this. Too bad it was such a pretty jacket. I’m sure dwr will keep it functioning nominally at least.

That looks like delamination and should be covered by the manufacturer's warranty.  It would definitely be worth reaching out to Mammut customer service.

I recently had this happen to an old salomon jacket - I tried stretching the jacket away from the wrinkles and they all came out, ymmv.

Depends a bit on age and probably not covered if the manufacturer deems the jacket past serviceable lifespan. But this wil depend on the brand.

I have an old ME tupilak that I bough cheap. It has this problem quite bad but it is still bomber waterproof so I don't really care

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
