I just got a deal ($75) on an old sub-zero SL parka. It’s hard to find info on these with regards to total fill weight and use aside from 650 down. Does anyone know the total down weight in these things/if they could be considered Denali-grade? It’s pretty heavy, almost as much as a Peak XV jacket. Baffling is not sewn through, putter material is super durable feeling.

I think RMI used those as part of their rental fleet for people climbing Rainier. You could try giving them a call.

If the jacket is 20 years old, its present condition is a lot more important than what the filling weight was originally. (Though I suppose if someone tells you it never had a lot of down (unlikely), then maybe that's enough of a NO GO).  Regardless, you could wear one of the oh-so-trendy modern, sewn-through-every-two-inches, sub 1 pound down jackets under it.

It's in pretty good condition, still quite lofty. Need to do a down wash and tennis ball tumble with it to tighten up the seams and really see how it can loft though. Again this thing was so cheap that worst case I can just use it as a fancy cold weather ice and rock cragging beater, or sell it to a boulderer that doesnt care about approach weight!

I don't recall the tech specs, but I used that exact jacket on Denali in 2006 (end of May-mid June).

I knew someone would have used one of these in the past!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
