Has anyone had luck for getting high altitude travel insurance similar to my situation. Mostly care about the Medical portion of the travel insurance for if I was stuck in a foreign hospital.. don't care too much about reimbursement of plane tickets. Many insurance agencies have stipulations excluding climbing, mountaineering, travel above 5000 meters... I thought World Nomads might do the trick but there is an exclusion specifically for "unsupported" mountaineering. And our plan is to be un-guided (no formal guiding company). Not trying to have a conversation about necessity of needing a guide here. United States - Washington State residents, planning on high altitude climbing >5000m unguided. Is anyone familiar with a travel insurance policy that would work in these circumstances Obviously no one wishes for these scenarios but it is always best to be prepared. Thank you! -D

Global Rescue? They have an option for trips over 4600m. Haven’t read the fine print though so not sure if unguided is covered.

Check out Buddy Insurance. Pretty affordable and I don't believe they exclude any particular altitudes or details about guided/unguided, but their coverage might not be enough for what you're after. You can do whatever amount of time you want with them too which is nice.

I'll do more research with global rescue. They are very expensive and the medical side (part I care about) is offered through a third party that makes the documents hard to view before purchasing. Probably have to call. Also would feel ridiculous to double the cost of my trip for just insurance needs. Buddy insurance maybe, will do more research later. Sounds more like AD&D than med insurance
