I will be in New Zealand this march for a couple weeks and I am looking at attempting an ascent of Mt. Cook. I am curious where I can find more detailed information about climbing it (books, blogs, websites, videos, etc), what to expect weather wise that season and if anyone is actually interested in being a climbing partner for it. I am experienced in glacier travel, technical alpine, scrambling, rock and ice, but haven’t done too much above 3,000m, just a little in the alps.
March is peak summer down here, so essentially most glacial and ice/snow mountaineering routes are too broken up to worthy a safe attempt. Mount Aspiring could potentially still be viable via Bevan Col. and the NW Ridge, but March might even be too late in the season for that. Plenty of good alpine rock scrambling and tramping to be had though especially down in Milford Sound/Darran Mountains. As far as info goes - climbnz.org.nz is probably your best bet beyond googling for trip reports or buying the guidebook.
