My Climbing Gear Wall - What Does Yours Look Like?

Our family climbing gear has been getting more and more cluttered and out of control. My wife had finally been pushed to the breaking point over this last weekend and we dove into re-organizing things. Lots of Pinterest, Reddit, MountainProject, and thinking about our space led us to this wall. We wanted something fun, modular, and highly visual/fast to grab and go (we climb a fair amount in different styles and waste a lot of time sorting through what to bring/leave - and still often forget stuff). I'd also been looking for a place to start putting my climbing location stickers...

Maybe this will inspire something even better. Would love to see what else is out there - post your pictures/approaches here, too!

Pluses -- easier to find shit in a hurry... easier to notice missing gear (because it leaves an empty hook)... faster packing & unpacking from trips.

Minuses -- more UV exposure & bigger heating/cooling cycles than a box under the bed / in a closet... collects dust, out in the open.

Also more inherently performative -- not really a plus or a minus, more of philosophy/ethic/preference thing.

Mostly, I'm just jealous of anyone who has enough space at home to lay all their gear out like an REI display.

Fair note about collecting dust more out in the open - and more heat/cooling cycles is probably true although our house's temp doesn't change that much. Definitely both downsides to consider, though.

Fortunately, the room has black out curtains and is used for storage so doesn't see any unnecessary UV, which would have been the largest issue in not covering up the gear.

gear and workout area downstairs.  No UV exposure concerns.  The ease of laying stuff to go on a trip, recovering, and accounting for everything afterwards can not be understated....  Like rifles in the arms room.... pretty easy to see "what's out"

Love this, thanks for sharing! Agreed - seeing everything out makes planning and returning so much easier for me.

Moved from a living out of a car to living alone in a 2br apartment so I had a lot of closet space to myself.

Coat closet which ended up being winter wearable gear and softgoods.

I’d like to say it stayed this neat, but half of it is now scattered across the living room.

There's a smaller one on the opposite wall with some more packs and a few other things. Sleeping bags, jackets, and some overflow stuff is kept in a closet inside the house.

No I built it. 3/4" ply (fortunately long before lumber prices became what they are now) and so many shelf pin holes... so many....

And thanks!

May as well add to this thread (should really just add to the already established threads on this topic)   needed panoramic view

Looks rough but it's so much better than it used to be (scattered all over the floor)

When one climbs frequently their gear tends to remain in one's pack. Thus making such walls unnecessary.

Yeah man, my aid gear, ice gear, mountaineering and basecamp bags and tents, various shoes and boots, and triple rack all stay in my pack. Organizing it based on use, route, weather, and season is totally unnecessary.

Only true for beginners.  All your gear fits in a pack?   ;)

I have my full pack for the day at the crag on the table…probably bust a seam if I tried to stuff everything inside.

I put my gear on a pegboard just for fun.  But I found it useful for the packs as I find putting them in a bucket or closet tends to stink it up.

Curious for those that mention temperature variation and uv, what.gear are you particularly worried about?  My wall is the basement so not worried about uv but come winter yeah the temp in the room does fluctuate

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
