Hey folks,

Anyone in South East Vermont have any experience climbing on Mt Ascutney? I've hiked a few trails and it seems like there are a few areas that are climbable.

I've seen this question come up before and it doesn't seem like there's been much follow up in the past. If anyone is interested in checking the area out let me know!

I don't have much experience building anchors but plenty experience climbing and belaying outdoor, sport and top rope.

HI Alex, I don't have an answer to your question but would be very interested if anyone else has input.  Send me a DM and maybe we can go check it out together sometime soonish.

Looks promising from photos on google. Maybe Dartmouth outing club would a good source of info.

Skied and biked there a bunch over the years. There’s certainly rock around, but nothing that I’ve seen worth climbing or bouldering. Would be interested in knowing if anyone’s seen good climbing—it’s a big mountain and I certainly haven’t explored it all.

20+ years ago there was an obviously cleaned route at the Norcross Quarry.  Went back more recently and it had grown over, nothing special anyway.  The natural rock band to the right has some potential for short routes/ highball boulders but nothing really worth the hike.

Been trying to find a decent looking large chunk of rock on Ascutney for 25 years now.  Let me know when you find something...

I've heard there is potential at the Norcross Quarry, and there may be a second old quarry as well. Good to know there used to be something.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
