Have sportiva miura sizes changed?

I have been using the miura lace ups for years - probably since 2008 I think. After a shortish wear in the 44.5 were perfect. Due to a lack of availability I once used a pair of 44. Recently and in particular this year I used a new pair of 44.5 after 6 weeks off climbing and they were excruciating on the toes. They did not get better and so I purchased a pair of 45.5 Katana being the only shoes available i could find at the time. These fit quite snug even after a 6 weeks of regular climbing say around 20 + days. I have also purchased a pair of 45 tc pros and used them for a few days. They feel on the tight side but not crazy like the 44.5s

I don’t understand it - I have gone through probably 20 pairs of 44.5 over the last number of years and now they don’t fit? I must admit that I have noticed for the last several years that they seem to take longer to wear in ie sore toes after even the first resole. This was never the case 5 years ago. Has sizes changed or have my feet changed?

I used to pull on the 44.5 and think that is just perfect snug but not too tight. I can wear them easily even on a long slab pitch after pitch as I long as I too them off between pitches. Now my feet scream after 10 m!

What are other people’s thoughts? Note that this is not a question about how they stretch as for many years they stretched the perfect amount for me but no longer

Have you considered it's your feet changing instead of the shoes. Feet get bigger over your life, I'm young at 26 but I cant wear the same shoes I wore 5 years ago.

Yes they have changed sizing on the laceup Miuras. I've got a pair of the old styles in 45.5 which work great for single pitch climbing but I wanted something with a little more comfort for all day climbs so I picked up a pair of 46's in the new style. They are smaller than my 45.5s, go figure.....and unfortunately 46 is the largest size they make, so I can't order another half or full size larger.

I have Miura VS in size 40 that are smaller than my older 39.5s. I still have both, so it's not a matter of my feet growing over the years. I can wear the 39.5 pair, but literally can't get my feet in the 40.  Anybody want to buy them? I have no use for them.

This is how I feel but I can see others have similar stories while others again have the opposite experience.

very interesting- I guess the answer is that for many people the sizing has changed or at least the feel. unfortunately I have probably 6 pairs of the larger sizes that are new - purchased overseas on trips as the shoes cost probably a $100 more here in Australia

thanks for all the responses

ps I did wear the tight shoe on my right foot for some time as it enabled more technical movement but unfortunately I have developed tendinitis in the longus tendon which I now have to treat brought on by the tight shoe in my view

I have been buying Miura lace ups for more than 20 years, having sets I rotate through and resole for both sport and gym climbing. Thousands of hours climbing in them. As my foot changed, I went up 0.5-1 size over that time, but the fit and feel was always almost exactly the same, until 2019 or so when they most certainly substantially changed the sizing and lasts.  Or dropped their quality control.  Even checking multiple sizes, they are a different shoe, and much sloppier fitting on me. They used to fit like a perfect glove, but that disappeared. Break in does not fix it. There is loose leather that bunches up and creases now, something that I had never seen, and the laces do not tighten them the same way.

I stopped buying them, sadly, and use the new ones for gym time, while saving and caring for all my old ones much better now.  Not that I climb well or anything, but having a perfect shoe fit is always nice outside.

I haven't worn the prior Miuras, but in general across various La Sportivas, 39.5 is my performance fit for sporty/bouldery things (Solutions, Skwamas and Theories), and 40.5 for all day comfort fit/jamming (Katanas and TC Pros). Picked up a pair of the new women's Miura VS in a 39, which feels akin to my 39.5 fits in the other models.

I used the muira lace ups for 20ish years and noticed the change when they went to the p3 rand. The toe box got much narrower and never really break in. It’s a shame since i could pretty much have those in my pack and worked on most any kind of climbing.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
