Did Squawstruck yesterday and it got me wondering if it'd be possible to split it up between the cruiser first half or the second half crux pitches.

There's a topo on the squawstruck page that implies you could walk off after pitch 11, has anyone done this? It'd be cool to walkoff there after the first 11 or hike up to it to do the last 11.

I remember walking over there to the ridge and thinking it looked more complicated than the raps or the east walk offs. Didn't give it a go because of that. Others who have actually tried it might disagree.

I walked down from 11 to the top of pitch 8. The raps after that aren't horrible I don't think.

I walked off from Pitch 8 once. I may not have taken the best path, but it was pretty terrible. Lots of steep loose talus fields, way more traversing than descending due to all the tiers, and it went very slowly overall.

I've walked off west from Pitch 11. You have to stay high to start, then it turns into a steep bush whack with a few short deer trails. It took forever to come down that way, but it is possible. Rapping down from the bolted anchors is much easier.

I’ve done the first 8 a dozen or so times. The walk off is really good (aside from one little steep bit at the start and some talus skiing at the end. If you top pitch 8, walk to the wall as though you were going to start pitch 9, but keep hiking climbers right (farther up the canyon). Eventually you’ll veer towards a slope down to some bolts where you can rap down (a 70 is perfect, a 60 also works fine, just some 4th class scrambling to do). After that 1 rap, you can put your rope and hardware away as it’s just a hike out from there. Keep hiking deeper into the canyon. The trail is pretty well defined so no bushwhacking is needed. Eventually you’ll reach a clear end of the trail, at which point you’ll start descending to the canyon floor over a talus field. You’ll get to the Rock Canyon trail where you can then just walk back to the parking lot.

As far as getting down from pitch 11, there is a way to hike down past pitches 9-11 and get back to the top of 8, where you then follow the directions above. I’ve done this a couple times but it’s not a very desirable path.

I’ve considered hiking up to pitch 9, (I once watched someone hike around where the rappel is and get up to the start of pitch 9, though it looked sketchy), but I decided against it as climbing the first 8 would take about the same amount of time..
