What's the difference between Knifeblade and Kniferidge from Patagonia?

I've been reading reviews and watching YouTube but I have not seen any comparison between them. What's the difference?

Also, it seems the Kniferidge Jacket is oversized, like older Patagonia tops.
Is the Knifeblade a size up, too?

Similar soft shells from the ‘14-‘17 seasons. Both had a “regular” fit if I recall correctly.

Hard to find these days!

FWIW I love the kniferidge as my ice climbing jacket in normal conditions (anything that isn't soaking wet or a blizzard). So much so that I hunted one down when my first got lost. It's a really nice weight.

I wore the Knifeblade jacket and pants for a long time (and still have a brand new pair of pants on standby).  I also have the Kniferidge bottoms and tops.  The Kniferidge has a more relaxed fit and was meant to be a crossover piece between climbing and skiing.  I still use the Kniferidge pant as my primary ski pant but wouldn’t choose to climb in them unless I was approaching with full size ski boots.  The Knifeblade was probably the last good softshell Patagonia had made and I still occasionally use it.

The Knifeblade pullover is my all-time favorite ice climbing jacket.  Extremely breathable and waterproof enough for winter conditions.

I remember I had the jacket version of one of those pants and I loved it. I don't fully understand why Patagonia and other companies do this. It seems like the have a genuinely good product, well reviewed, and enjoyed by people who use it and yet they discontinue it for items that always fall flat. I was reading an interview with Colin Haley and it seems like he would say the same thing about some of the products. Maybe I just buy more Patagonia than other brands, but they seems to have a great product for one season and then it vanishes or is replaced by something that sucks or isn't as good.

@Sockeye, it’s the same with many other brands.

Patagonia seems to do it the most though.

I am sure none of this stuff sold super well, unlike T-shirts with a trout on thrm, but still, they would know that coming into the project.

Me too!  I just sold it as it was too small ;(.  Perfect weight, just the right features.

Too small - as in fit too tight for your normal size? Would you recommend sizing up?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
