Place to Stay in El Potrero Chico

Hello,

I just booked my flights to EPC and was wondeirng about places to stay.  I have been there 5 times, but it seems like things have changed a bunch since my last trip.

I'd love to avoid places like Posada and Rancho Sendero.  I'd also love to pay a local family, not just one of the common amenities.

Does anyone know of a local family or quiet spot in Potrero or Hidalgo?

Also, I speak Spanish, so no issues communicating.

Thanks!

Check out El Potrero Chico Accommodations or Leos Tacos and Grill.  Both are on Facebook.

Ariels Chalet is awesome. There's a few different room options at various sizes. Here's the small one that I've stayed in:

Owned and run by a local family. Great people. Location is amazing, deep in the Potrero past the Outrage wall. Quiet and remote. A bit rustic.

Stayed here for a week last season and it was pretty much perfect.

The owner is mega rad, he actually picked us up and dropped us off at the airport; drove us into town a few times to grab various odds and ends. The pharmacy in town didn’t have an item in stock that we wanted, so he took it upon himself to drive out to another bigger pharmacy like 45 mins away, and when we got back from climbing it was on our doorstep. The place isn’t crazy luxurious or anything, but it’s clean and secure and has everything you need + a pool.

10ish minute walk to the start of the climbing corridor. Couldn’t have asked for anything better.

The pic at the top of the message is the view from the front porch/,gated access yard.

Yep, they are great people.  Stayed there a few times over the years.  It is the only place I’ll stay.

Some cool new places have come available but I've always got love for la pagoda! Especially their older rooms, just feels right at $20/night (two years ago was last I was there), cooking in the shared kitchen, eating in the courtyard, private bath, short walk to the canyon. Love it. Mini split was added by our second trip and cold rolled in, we were feeling quite spoiled back then!

How safe is it there theses days?

PSA to watch out for the serial sexual assaulter who runs the small margarita bar by the park entrance, building has a bunch of grades spraypainted on it (5.10, 5.11 etc). Multiple reports he is still pressuring and intimidating women.

Other than that, its a safe spot it seems

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
