Directions for Accessing Tuttle Creek Campground

I'll be camping in Tuttle Creek Campground before climbing in Alabama Hills. This will be my first time in the area.

Google maps says I should get off the 395 at Lubken Canyon Road and take it to Horseshoe Meadows Road.

Does anyone know the conditions for these roads? (I have a Sentra). Lubken Canyon does not look like a fun drive

If I drive further north I can take Whitney Portal Road (red) to "Tuttle Creek Road" to Sunset Drive to Horseshoe Meadows, but I heard Whitney Portal was washed out. However this seems to only take me on a small segment close to town (not particularly backcountry). Can any locals give me advice?

I drove through Lone Pine yesterday. Whitney Portal road is closed for construction close to town. The detour sign says to use Lubken Canyon. My Bishop friends told me today that you cannot access Alabama Hills right now directly from town, you have to make a big loop around - which I assume means using Lubken Canyon from 395.
