Bootied Gear on After Six
|
[[]] I was soloing on After Six the other week when I found a stuck cam…after I cleaned the cam a guy on the ground (who was packed up and leaving the crag) yelled up “hey! Thats my cam!”Well, that’s not exactly how I understand booty gear but being a reasonable person I offered to trade the cam for something small, like a 6 pack of beer, but nothing was offered so I kept the cam. Turns out the guy is a friend of a friend and when he got my info from the friend the guy threatened me with assault and social ostracization for not returning the cam…what do people think? |

With his attitude, I definitely wouldn't have given it back either. |

Was there a rope still up on the pitch? Kind of a dick move if they were still at the base of the route and planning on getting it back. Also a dick move to threaten someone. Dicks all around, I imagine. https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:GibnZwVZaaAJ: mountainproject. com/forum/message/125146128&hl=en&gl=us&client=firefox-b-1-m (Combine the above url since I can't stop mountain project from otherwise destroying it) |

You want a ransom to return someones property. You will not return it if you don't like their attitude. You want social media to validate theft. You are a reasonable person. |

Rope wasn’t on the pitch, bags were packed and they were leaving…I wasn’t returning someone else’s property I was cleaning abandoned property |

Certainly a lame move not to return the cam once you realized it’s theirs. Let’s keep a sense of community and camaraderie in climbing, shall we? It’s one thing if the bootied cam belongs to some unknown long-gone party, but I would return gear if I knew who it belonged to. A beer or whatever is a nice gesture but never required. |

Solo back up there, replace the cam. Problem solved. |
