Like the Edelrid Spoc?

Like the Edelrid Spoc? Get one perfect connector for it: the Grivel Clepsydra LARGE or the Petzl Bm’D. I will start using my Spoc a lot more! This to prevent what happened here: https://www.mountainproject.com/forum/topic/118769761/edelrid-spoc-safety-warning |

For Top Rope Solo the DMM Belaymaster is great as well, the Spoc can't crossload in any way possible and the plastic piece also ensures the crab stays locked. |
|
The DMM belaymaster is crap carabiner, apart from for top rope soloing where it is probably the best carabiner you can get. |

that guy named seb wrote: Yea I kind of don't like the belaymaster in general. I tried to like it! The plastic tab can pop open and then you don't have the feature you wanted in the first place. Also it is awkward to rig / de-rig / store on harness / etc. Also sometimes the open space in the carabiner is needed for some uses and the plastic tab gets in the way. My 2 cents! |

Hey Yann, Elderid's spec sheet recommends Oval or Pear shaped carabiners and explicitly says "NO" to the offset-D Any thoughts as to why they'd rule out that style? Does it come down to what they certified with? Microtraxion recommends oval/pear, but doesn't come out and say no to anything aside from caveat emptor |

Matthew Pieper wrote: It’s so the side plates are loaded symmetrically. Same for most pulleys and whatnot. Bm’d is fairly symmetrical on the fat side, so it might not be a problem especially off a dogbone/belay loop. I use a clepy L with my microtrax. |

That makes a whole lot of sense. I should really stop turning my brain off at 5PM. |

Yann Camus wrote: Hi Yann, I've watched a few of your Youtube videos and read your discussion on here and wanted to ask your opinion on mounting the Spoc and/or Microtraxion on the small side of the Clepsydra SMALL? I think I'd prefer the small just to save a bit of space and weight, so if the large isn't necessary I'd be keen to avoid the extra size. Specifically using the ascenders for TRS, I have the Spoc already which I discovered quickly does not go well with the BD Gridlock, and the Microtraxion is in the cart waiting for me to decide on the Clepsydra small or large. Thanks for your input online, helping me figure out TRS down here in Australia! |

Tried the Bm'D based on Yann's recommendation, but did not like how the device interacted with the D shape. Maybe I'm too paranoid. In any event, the cross-load issue has been addressed nicely, in my opinion, by the Avant anti-crossload thingy. https://avantclimbing.com/products/flex-link-anti-crossload-protector Anyone using the Spoc or any of Trax devices with the Kong asymmetric quicklink? This connector is mentioned by Andy Kirkpatrick in his TRS book. |

Josh Z wrote: The small works great. nano traxion cannot crossload in any way and micro kind of can but you have to manually force it to get one of plates to start moving around the gate side and I am not worried about it all in real world practice. Small also has other benefits if you start getting into LRS |

Thanks Bug Boy. I saw it could get caught up on the fin but I think you're right, seems like it wouldn't happen super frequently. I also think I'll do something similar to what PTR mentioned Avant is selling, just a rubber washer on the spine side of the biner should stop the traxion and hopefully the Spoc with its large gap being able to move around to the spine side. I'm hoping it won't fit over the gate either but if I'm concerned I'll put another rubber washer on. Thanks! |

Felix Nh Schmidt wrote: For TRS I'm using a old basic and an old rescuecender with BDELs locking ovals. No independent side plates to cross load. And they were both cheaper than a spoc. |

The old Grivel twin gate oval (Sym K9G) seems impossible to crossload with the spoc/microtrax, if you can find one. Unfortunately the current version is a twist lock gate. |
