Solo Joe Climbing Game
|
Did anyone ever play the Solo Joe 2 climbing game back in the day? I used to play it some 15 years ago. Did my knee in and am gonna be on the couch for a while. Feeling nostalgic and want to pick it up again. I've reached out to the company to register but havent heard back yet. Hoping by some miracle someone might remember the game and still have a key. Link to the game here: solojoeclimbing.com/ |

No but looks decent. Now where my GIRPers at?!?! |

I played it for a while years ago. Can't help with a key - the computer it was installed on is long since dead. I remember finding a bug on one climb that let your character climb in mid air until you ran out of energy. |

I believe it's the same Dana that owns The Goat Fort. You could try the contact info there. |

This is awesome. A friend recommended this to me about a month ago. I just got the demo also. Let me know if ya’ll figure it out. I’ll look too. |

Wow, guys, it has been a wild week. I reached out to Dana as per Randy’s comment. I got in touch with the creator of Solo Joe who has a key for registration of the game!!! He graciously allowed me to share with anyone interested in trying the game Username: FullGame Key: 81N8N1L481F418F Next time I’m headed to the states for a climbing trip I’m gonna try pop into The Goat Fort for a quick climb and to say hello and thanks. I encourage anyone else stoked on solo joe to do the same.

Mork M wrote: Thanks to Dana for making the game and you for reaching out. The game is super detailed (and not easy at all). you can tell a lot of love went into creating it. lots of climber in-jokes |

This game is great. My character has decked 5 times projecting a 5.6 because he can't remember which side of his harness he keeps the draws. |

Anybody else old enough to remember Solo Joe or Gunther's Big Day Out? I'll pay big money for the CD with the latter.... Mighta been an extra on a DVD? |

I was having trouble hanging draws on bolts because I also had a carabiner on my harness. So i would try grab a draw but my character was grabbing the biner. If there are only draws on your harness either the left or right arrows will grab you a draw. I'm even more impressed with the game today than I was 10 years ago. The guidebook descriptions of the routes are so good. To me, this is the climbing game that best imitates the feeling of actually climbing. Has everything from gear management to different types of cruxes (technical, powerful, balancy, dynos and deadpoints). This game is legit! |

Bumping this thread because I believe this game deserves more attention than it got. If you have never heard of it I encourage you to check it out. There's even a key for registration in the thread above. Great for rest days, rain days or downtime due to injury. I believe the link to download the game has changed. I think this is it now: solo-joe.software.informer.… |

LONG LIVE SOLO JOE!!!!!!!! |

Can't believe I randomly thought about this game for the first time in years, Googled it (after first Googled "Solo Steve" before remembering), and actually found an active thread about it. Great game! |

I asked Dana for the current link to the game. Here it is: |

Mork M wrote: I second this. Guidebook description is amazing. You can actually use descriptions to find routes that suit the character’s style. Goddamn sometimes it will even sandbag you lmao. Onsight is legit excited. This is as close as I can be at the crag during a cold snowy NE winter |

Fun game, but man it took me a while to get past 5.6! Just whipping on balance cruxes over and over. I guess life imitates art. |
|
Am I missing something? Love the guidebook details, resource management, and graphics, but uhhhh. I legitimately don't understand the actions I'm taking incorrectly. I can do the same climb six times in a row, and go from easily onsighting 3x to whipping unexpectedly at the 2nd bolt 3x. Makes sense if we're talking about a difficult onsight <5.11+, but for an inexperienced person climbing a 5.5 makes no sense, and is frustrating in terms of game design. Anybody have tips for being able to enjoy this sick looking game? |

Zach, there are strategies to the crux minigames that make them much easier. One thing to note is that every button press in the balance or strength minigames costs energy, so you want to use as few button presses as possible. |
