Van Camping at Red River Gorge?

Hey all,

My partner and I are going to RRG in about two weeks and we are planing on borrowing a van to camp in. I've been doing some research about where we will be able to sleep for very cheap/free and it seems like Indian Creek Road might be a good option or Miguel's but I'm not sure if Miguel's is tents only. Let me know if you have any insight on good places to park for the night that are near good climbing!

Miguel’s allows van camping, I’d say it’s 50/50 on amount of tent campers and vehicle campers. $3.50 a night to stay. Indian creek is more secluded, puts you closer to trad climbs/north gorge.

Last season I tented camped at Miguel's and my friend slept in his vehicle. It's cheap can be crowded and loud at times. Seemed every night people would show up late and then slam their car doors as they set up. So I'd recommend ear plugs. In the morning you can walk over and get hot food as well as a cheap shower. I have no experience with Indian Creek Road. Miguel's sits down in the valley floor so every morning was cold and damp for the first few hours of the day. Land of the Arches campground is really popular with climbers.

My wife and I have stayed at Land of the Arches campground three times with no complaints. I believe it is $8 a night per person. Tents, vans/car camping is allowed and it is not a party spot like Miguel's is. They have showers and restrooms inside the building and on the outside.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
