Hi y’all, has anyone had experience with an extensor tendon injury? I partially tore mine during a deep cut to my ring finger and am wondering what recovery and usability looks like after an injury like that. Thanks!

Hey Javier,

I had a full avulsion of an extensor tendon due to a bike accident. It was repaired with a Mitek anchor screwed into bone. That happened about 5 years before I started climbing, but I've never noticed any issues with it.

I would suggest you see a hand surgeon.   General rule with finger extensor laceration is <50% and you might be able to splint it.   More than 50% and you need surgery.   However, it also depends on where the laceration is and your range of motion.    If you wait too long then it might compromise you chances of full recovery.  Docs are expensive, but this is a case where it would be worth it.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
