Climbing around N. Vietnam
|
Xin chao! My husband and I are flying to Hanoi at the end of December. It looks like there's a fair amount of developed climbing on Cat Ba, but I'm wondering if anyone has beta on Ninh Binh, or around Ha Giang? I hear Ha Long is kinda trashed so we're thinking of staying away. Recommended operators (I don't wanna bring a rope and draws if I don't have to)? Right now we have an open itinerary for about 2.5 weeks, climbing isn't the main focus but with all that limestone around, I can't pass it up. Looking for moderate sport stuff. |

" Ha Long is kinda trashed " that's a question of degree I guess but the place is certainly one of the most unique climbing venues in the world. Great multi-pitch, right out of the water but good chunk of it is trad. Huu Lung Valley n. of Hanoi is pure sporto. |

Hi Beth. I think the best for my experience, is Huu Lung, just 2hs from Hanoi, is an amazing place with lots of crags, all managed for Vietclimb, the local indoor gym in Hanoi. They have a beautiful homestay to spend the days, and you have all the crag near there. If you need more information just text me. |

Seconding Huu Lung for your needs. The north, north (Ha Giang, etc) do have a lot of rock, but you wont find any bolts in it and you definitely wont find anyone to get gear from. |

I was at Huu Lung in March - best climbing in Vietnam easy. Quiet crag, you stay in town via home stay with amazing home cooked Vietnamese food. Hard to find gear and a partner tho - make sure to bring your own. |
