Is the Melanzana High Loft the best super shaggy Fleece?
|
I’m trying to get an appointment in October (a guy can dream) at the Melanzana store, and get my grubby hands on a high-loft hoodie. I love the slightly more technical, super comfortable fleece hoodie vibe. Is there anything out now that’s close if slash when I can’t end up getting an appointment slot? There was the Patagonia R3, but as far as I’m aware they are no longer available. Thanks! |

Can't you just pick up a used R3? |
|
Someone makes a similar alpaca hoodie but I can't remember brand. If you like the microgrid, the outdoor research micro grid fleece jackets are awesome and go on sale for 40 or 50 bucks. I'm all about supporting US made products and small companies though so I say go to Leadville. |

This is small outfit in Portland. I have one of their lighter weight hoodies, the wren, and it’s awesome. The Merlin is probably more comparable to an R3, though not sure if it’s exactly the same weight. |
|
100% the plan is to get an appointment for a melly if possible, but I'm also checking out some R3's. I do like those smaller outfitters though - I'll check those out! |

first question to OP: what is the use of this fleece? primarily just to wear on the daily? Part of a layering system? Technical winter climbing? |
|
MacPac Nitro pullover is basically naked polartec alpha. Super cozy |
|
Keeping me warm during some technical rock climbing here in the SE US mostly. Layering under a shell or down jacket, and also being used as a daily wear comfy hoodie as the goal. |

I actually prefer that it has no zip. I’d like it even more if it didn’t have a pocket. |

https://superiorfleece.com/products/mens-brule-hoodie?variant=39500457181366 You have to catch them the morning orders open but they are nice imo and don't have to actually travel to superior to get them |

Ragged mountain in NH makes a nice one and is made in the USA. It does have a full zip though. |
