Lone Peak Cirque Conditions and Suggestions
|
Has anyone been up in the last little bit? I saw a post from July 9th saying there was snow, but that it was going fast. I’m curious to know how much there is still up there with this recent heat. Planning to stay Friday night and climb Saturday so I’d love to not carry loads of water. Originally we were planning on the “triple crown” (Triple Overhangs, Vertical Smile, and Open Book) but The Gear Room’s instagram post makes me shy away from Open Book due to rock fall. This is my and my partners first time to the Cirque. Any other “Must Do” suggestions? Has anyone done Open Book this season? If so, how’d it look? Thanks! |

Center thumb is one of the funnest climbs I have ever done. Edit: I hate typing on a phone, sorry all. |

Vertical Overhangs, Center thumb, and Lowe Route would be the better triple crown imo. |

Anyone have an update on snow/water conditions? Planning a trip later this month and am hoping to not hump in a bunch of water. Thanks! |

Was just up there this past weekend (July 25-27). Lots of water still flowing and lots of snow in the cirque. No snow on the summit. Seems like it should hold water for a few more weeks. |

Just got back from Lone Pk. Plenty of snow and water in the cirque. We found a good afternoon trickle of water off a rock on the right side snowfield, below Pika Paradise. There was also a small afternoon stream at the left side of the big snowfield below the summit wall. I'll bet you can get water, or at least melt snow for another 3 weeks. We came up from Alpine, there was water most of the way up on that approach. |
