Technical gear/apparel repair
|
Mentioned this over in the mountaineering forum but thought it might be nice to post here for the community at large. Why replace perfectly functional gear when it has only minor damage? It seems like these days there is a nice cottage industry doing repairs of technical garments and gear. I’ve had a few beloved layers that were saved from the landfill by some simple repairs and I couldn’t be happier. My items were fixed by zoecanpatchit in Albuquerque NM. My repairs were pretty simple but I’ve seen others done by zoecanpatchit that were considerably more involved but that came out looking awesome! Are there technical repair options in your area? |

For folks who frequent the Gunks, I do "hobbyist-level" repair on clothing and gear, with drop off at Rock and Snow. Mostly sewing repairs, but I have the tools to repair most cam trigger wires (but not Totems or C3s). |

In the Portland OR area, I have used Mountain Soles several times. I believe that a few local shops also use them for repairs. |

GearAid offers a ton of options for do it yourself repairs on layers and boots and tents. They’ve got Patches, Seam Sealer, DWR, Boot Repair and Waterproofer, Technical Layer Wash, they kinda offer it all for general maintenance and minor repairs that can save your worn out stuff and keep it going. Also some brands are really good about doing repair work on their gear. Big Agnes replaced and re-sewed a broken buckle on my tent for just the cost of shipping with pretty quick turnaround time. Always worth reaching out to the company and seeing if they offer repairs. |
