I'm in the market for synthetic pants with full side zips and have narrowed it down to these three. It looks like the MHW compressor is the most durable option, the stance is the warmest but heaviest, and the DAS is the lightest + most packable while being perhaps an in-between for warmth. Characteristics that matter to me are harness compatibility, ease of putting on/taking off when wearing harness + gloves + crampons, and overall quality. I think I lean DAS, but I don't want to sacrifice durability and end up with holes in the knees. Can anyone speak to these?

I was looking for similar characteristics as you and I ended up with Rab Photons that I love, might wanna check them out if they're not on your radar.

I like my BD stance pants. It’s like wearing a sleeping bag. Fits fine over the harness. The belt works really well and is easy with gloves.

The stance has become my go to - yes they are ~200g heavier than the das or the arc pants but they are warmer as well. I like the fact that there is a belt with a plastic buckle - most of the time when having a harness on, i leave the fly unzipped and just clip the belt at the top (not even trying to use the snap button, with the belay loop poking through the fly, so the pants cover my butt and complete harness, less faffing about...

I don’t Have experience with the other two you are looking at and can only speak to the Stance. Mine still look new after two full (really good) seasons of ice climbing and two trips to Alaska where they were worn nearly every day at some point. They do seem on the heavy side, but they have been very durable and super warm. I looked at other options for Alaska this year but it seemed like I would be giving up a lot of durability and not saving much weight so I stuck with the Stance. To me, belay pants seem to take a beating easily and sacrificing durability doesn’t seem like it will be financially worth it to save 100g.

Thanks for all the input, everyone. After further research and considering all of the opinions here, I decided to just order both the BD Stance and the Rab Photons to try them on while wearing all my gear. I'll most likely return the one that suits me less. I'll post my first impressions of them once I've tried them both out, but everyone else please feel free to add more comments for anyone else who may happen upon this thread in the future.

Got the pants. My first impressions: The Rab Photons have a very premium feel to them. They're soft in the right places, and reinforced in the right places. One thing I do not like is that the front zipper is partial, and it is not possible to comfortably put them on if you are already roped up. In order to accommodate a rope, you would have to first zip the sides together with the rope coming out the top of the pants, then unzip the sides slightly and fold the front flap down, or put them on before you rope up and commit to wearing them until the rope comes off. They are otherwise very nice, and their relatively low weight makes me think I'd want to take them on shorter trips where speed is a bigger factor. BD Stance pants have burlier fabric everywhere, including on the reinforced inner cuffs. They have thicker insulation, but are definitely heavier and bulkier. I'm iffy on the belt, but the front zipper goes all the way to the top which allows you to don the pants when roped up; a huge plus! Overall, I think I lean towards the stance. They are heavier and bulkier, but the thicker fabric makes me think they'll stand up better to abuse and the ability to comfortably put them on and take them off while roped up is an enormous plus.

I have the stance pants and love the belt. For belaying I latch the belt and open up the fly, belay loop/device comes out there and the pants stay up.
