Magnetrons still being produced?
|
Recently someone told me that the company that was making these for BD still makes magnetrons under their own brand (I think a lesser known euro brand)...anyone got any deets? |
|
I thought Magnetrons were some of the last biners BD was making in the SLC factory, and stopped being produced bc of high reject rate and high labor costs... I don't think they were rebranded by someone else |
|
They were fun to play around with at the store but didn’t feel like a true locker for my own personal preferences. I think the rocklocks and hotforge lockers are where it’s what where BD lockers are concerned. |

Will trade one Magnetron RockLock for one Silent Partner.....anyone? ANYONE?!?!?! |

I've got 3 rocklocks for trade. Whatchall got? Edit: I got post limited. I haven't been that active on this site in awhile and really??? You're only allowed 3 posts in a day? How the F* are you supposed to have a conversation on here???? |

I believe there was a major flaw in the magnetrons, which may have lead to the reason for it being discontinued. https://www.mountainproject.com/forum/topic/114507031/trouble-with-stuck-gate-on-magnetron |

Just an FYI, there was never a rollen.de, that was a "Rick Roll" (an internet prank/trope where you post a link to something too good to be true and it just goes to "Never Gonna Give You Up" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rickrolling). I too am in the magnetron fan club (hence why I was in that thread in the first place). I have also had a magnetron fail on me (the magnet insert pulled out of where it was pressed/glued into the carabiner nose and essentially left me permanently locked into the carabiner). Luckily it happened in the gym where I could just pull the ends of the rope through my ATC and call it a day. It took some trickery with some dental picks to get the gate open again, so now I have a half-locking-magnetron. I suspect the dissimilar metals with different expansion rates and the tight tolerancing makes manufacturing/quality difficult to achieve which is why they were sadly discontinued. |

A: I now feel old B: that is really dumb For those actually interested in this topic: I'm making some assumptions here but I think my original source had conflated BDs magnetrons with skyoltecs pinchlocks. Neither are being produced anymore so oh well. |
|
I got a few pinch locks and they are not magnet based and the buttons do not sit proud like the magnetrons. The buttons sit flush with a protective edge to ensure they do not get pressed on accident. It's kinda hard to press both locking buttons at the same time compared to the BD ones. You need to point and jam your fingertip in to fully press the buttons. The gate spring is also very stiff. It is the only substitute I have found and it feels like it is 75% of the way there. |

I've found those carabiner that seem quite similare for those that can interest (it is not pinch, but it can easily be open one hand with glove like the magnetron and seem to feel good) |
