Scrambles or climbs that have jumps?
|
Pretty self explanatory, I'm a big fan of routes with jumps and looking for more. Ones I know of or have done already - Knife Edge of the Shield, Pyramid Peak in CO, Durrance, Upper Exum (afaik no one has done this one since Glenn Exum though, at least on record), that Czech sandstone crag. Ideally the jump is not contrived (like it's more direct to jump than traverse around/downclimb/etc). |

There's the diving board on freeway you can down climb it but the jump is more straightforward for sure |

Descent from the mace comes to mind. Or superfly at suicide. Seems right up your alley. |

The West Ridge of Forbidden Peak is a 5.6 ridge climb/scramble. There's one spot where you have to cross over this gap in the ridge. It's possible to do a big step over, but jumping across also makes sense. I think I did a big step over on the way up, and jumped on the way down. Also, Shay---I think you were one of the 2 climbers I ran into early in the morning on Saturday in the Sandias when you asked where the Chimney Canyon trail was? Did you find the descent OK? How was the rest of your day? |

I think this one fills the bill. It's a full on run and jump across the chasm to a steep face. Also, the run is short due to space on the ledge, so you have to commit hard and sprint. https://www.mountainproject.com/route/105722047/mission-impossible |

Here in Germany we even have a grading system, the Sächsiche Sprungskala which come from the towers in the Elbe sandstone area, goes from 1 (easy) up to nowadays 7, like jump off the moves on a 5.11 to land on the moves on a 5.10 which is 5 metres away. |

I don’t remember a jump on the Knife Edge of the Shield? There’s a famous one on Land’s End Long Climb in Cornwall (UK), used as training by the British marines. |

North ridge of north peak had a couple jumps that were faster than down climbing. |

https://www.mountainproject.com/route/114810727/johns-jump 5.2 climbing 5,8 commitment, full moon ascent for the full effect. |

For the start of "Elephant Man" at Reimer's Ranch outside of Austin, Texas, you've got to jump off a ledge to a stalactite on the roof, and continue climbing on stalactites. It's quite exciting! (Though if you're 6 feet tall or more you can lean out and just reach it. Kinda removes some of the excitement) https://www.mountainproject.com/route/106316993/elephant-man |

Snakes Head 5.5x has a wonderful "leap" at the end. Tons of fun with big groups at the yearly meetups out in the middle of farm country Oklahoma. |

Alex Fischer wrote: Yep, that was my buddy and I! Rad to see you here. We had an easy time finding the descent (much appreciated) and a wonderful day topped off by touristing some Breaking Bad locations and getting lunch at Los Pollos Hermanos before driving back...perfect day honestly, that thing is classic! We did wonder about you guys often! Did you get your FA done? |

Thanks for all the suggestions!! Keep 'em coming...this thread is going to keep me busy for years :D These all look absolutely perfect:
Looks like I've got a bit of traveling to do. Dylan Thomas TX wrote: These meetups sound like a blast, are they announced anywhere? |

"Superfly" at Suicide Rock, Southern California. This "route" is a jump. |

Shay Subramanian wrote: Nice! And yes, we did climb that spire! At the top we found some pins and a summit register. People have climbed that spire before, although the last written down ascent was in 1979. The entries described the routes they took and it seems like the old routes at least partially overlapped the route we did. |
