Micro Jul/Mega Jul Guide Mode set up??

There are several MP posts, YouTube videos and magazine/blog reviews covering the Micro Jul/Mega Jul.  So far I have not seen a reason for rigging guide mode as pictured in 8a from the Edelrid packing label.  Can folks tell me why running the carabiner around the device is correct and appropriate?

Additionally, picture 10 from the same packing label shows a different rigging to lower a follower using guide mode.  (Obviously one cannot unrig and rerig to lower a stuck second climber.)

Additional photos from reviews and the packing label.

Thank you Alec.  The video is great.  I especially like the tutorial on how to rig the carabiner correctly.

The pictured flip is actually the reason my partner and I bought the Micro Jul.  An 8mm Mammut rope looked too small for the DMM Pivot in guide mode.  My guess is the Micro Jul will not allow the 8mm brake rope and climber rope to flip.  Seeing that clever way to rig the guide mode, makes me think capturing the Micro Jul within the belay carabiner is easier than I initially believed.

*Re: flipping, yep. Known failure mode with all guide plate devices. When capturing 2 ropes it can't flip, so no need to capture the device itself.

Hi there! sorry to revive an old thread, but could you post the video you are referencing? I haven’t used my microjul for a top down belay yet, but I want to make sure I understand how to rig it correctly.

You can see how they clip around the ropes here:
