Free Camping near SLC this week?

Any recommendations?  Anything near the canyons but not too far up? I'm looking for somewhere I can throw down a tent or hammock that isn't too far a drive in, just somewhere I can park nearby and sleep. Don't want to go real high up in elevation either and face cold or snowy camping.

My flight gets in late so a minimum of fuss and no check in would be ideal.

I remember paying to camp somewhere like this back in 2008 but I can't figure out where that was.

I've been playing with some searches and an app called the dyrt but am not finding much obvious yet. Walmart doesn't let you sleep in their lots anymore right? Although my rental would be kinda small for that anyway.

Feel free to point me at some other resource to search if you can think of a good one. Just getting a bit frustrated with Google's crappy results.

Thanks.

Get a motel room. Seriously. It's the best option. There really isn't much if any free, dispersed camping in and around SLC. The National Forest campgrounds aren't open yet; there's massive avalanche damage in LCC, so no overnight roadside parking for the foreseeable future.

Walmart depends on the specific store. If you search, you can find a site that shows all the Walmarts and their overnight parking policy. It might even be a page on their site.

And don't leave anything - absolutely anything - in your car when you're parked in the canyons.

I think American fork is open for camping at the moment seemed like there was people there with campfires atleast on Friday evening.

Just for a night?   Or all week.....  This is a huge city with no forests/wilderness nearby.   If it's just a night, you can crash at my apartment.  If you're trying to rogue camp you'll need to get busy finding something (american fork or similar).

Just there for a few days for one particular activity but may snag a day of climbing while I'm in the area. Was thinking about visiting Zion to try the Narrows but it looks like that isn't an option due to the weather and river.

Thanks for the info and advice.

You could blend in with other tents at Pioneer Park.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
