Hi all, I'll be in Estes Park this summer.......looking for the best Guidebook for the Lumpy Ridge area.

Also, what's the best Guidebook for Eldo?

Thanks in advanced!      John

I saw a recommendation post but it is gone now, any help would be appreciated!

For books, pick the top suggestion on:

Lumpy book

Eldo book

Further preparation: Lumpy is usually closed for birds until Aug 1 and be prepared for 80-95F summertime temps in Eldo. Maybe have a look at RMNP and Vedauwoo?

Is all of Lumpy closed for birds or just certain formations? What about the rest of the crags in the Estes area, are all of them subject to bird bans?

They close specific formations, which generally include Sundance… and most other places you want to climb. Here’s a list of closed crags:

  • Twin Owls
  • Rock One
  • Batman Rock
  • Batman Pinnacle
  • Thunder Buttress
  • The Parish
  • Lightning Rock
  • Checkerboard
  • Sundance Buttress
  • The Book
  • Bookmark Pinnacle
  • The Left Book
  • Bookmark
  • The Needle Summit and access trails
  • Cathedral Wall

Thanks, yeah, that pretty much covers the entire Ridge. What about formations elsewhere around Estes not in the Park?
