Enchanted tower road conditions

Just got back from the tower.  There is probably about a quarter mile of it which is currently a light stream. Near the source of this stream there is about a 30 yard section of fairly deep mud.  I was in a standard Subaru Forester and we were closer than I'd like to getting stuck on our way out.  The snow melt runoff seems to be the source of this and it may be a bit before it dries out.  Overall the extra moisture from this winter seems to have taken a toll, and from my understanding the sections of it that were traditionally the worst terrain have been superseded by deeper ruts over longer sections of the road. For instance the first cattle guard you come to after the little summer camp thing is almost completely exposed and is non-trivial drop with the incline. If you are going in a Subaru, Sprinter, Transit etc, consider waiting until later in the season to make a trip or pairing up with someone who has a higher clearance, beefier vehicle.

It would be good to keep track of the conditions on the forum as the weather evolves. Hopefully things improve as it dries out further.

Reports from this past weekend on the condition of Davenport Lookout Rd. were not good. The report above regarding the mud was confirmed, with folks describing a 40ft stretch of quicksand which was giving people a lot of trouble, and one group mentioned damaging the steering column on their jeep due to that section. The road is not trivial, really be prepared to get yourself in and out if you decide to drive it.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
