Anybody have experience making a home wall with no T Nuts? Kinda seems from pictures that Ned Feehally and Shauna Coxseys home board has no t Nuts, only screw ins. And if you're only using screw ins, are you trusting them to hold through just a single piece of ACX?

Their boards are made from nice ply

If you use T-nuts, you're still trusting the "single piece of ACX" to keep the hold attached to the wall.

Look for a good lumberyard. I was able to find sheets of good Birch ply for only $2 more than ACX at HD/Lowe's/Menards

I would highly recommend going screw on only. T nuts are a pain in the ass and really limit your ability to put holds exactly where you want them or have a proper spray wall. When you do end up chewing the plywood up to the point that you have to swap it out you’ll have had many, many, many resets and climbing sessions on the wall.

If you do end up going with only screw on, I’d recommend getting some screw inserts (ringos or lone stars)

At least have a grid of t-nuts for moving around larger holds and hollow-back holds. Plenty of hollow-back holds need bolts as the shape won't allow for screws to sit cleanly or provide more structural support than just preventing spinning. And if you need a 3 to 4" screw to use a Lonestar, you should just use a bolt for that hold instead of 4 screws. Same thing applies to any really good jug that you can yard off of.

I can understand some holds that are very thinly poured or do not have metal washer backing but even those can be screwed on very securely with a little finesse.
if your going to already drill the plywood and put a grid of t-nuts you might as well just bolt everything. It seems like more effort to have partially bolted and 1/2 screw ins than one or the other.

T-nutless homewall example, every hold is screwed on and functions perfectly.

If I need to move holds a 1/2” it’s no problem.

There is no use for T nuts unless you're building a commercial board that requires them. The Tension TB2 doesn't use them.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
