Hey all, I am an outdoor guide and climber from Australia but seeing as we don’t have any proper mountains here I’m looking to learn the ways of the alpine with the goal of one day working in alpine environments. Looking for a course that’ll not just guide me through some things but really help me solidify them (preferably with other like minded participants) Will be in that part of the world from mid June to mid September or so

Big plug for Northwest Mountain School.  They run a solid operation and I learned a lot from them in my formative years

Yamnuska in Canmore, Alberta were great when I worked with them, but that was 20 years ago. Maybe someone who has worked with them recently can comment.

If you’re in Australia why not just go to New Zealand? Lots of courses over there.

I'll second the recommendation for the American Alpine Institute.  Taking courses in their AMTL series is a good way to build skills to not just participate in a team but to lead a team in technical terrain.  There are a lot of other great providers in the Cascades too.  I'd also suggest looking into custom trips with Guided Exposure and the Mountain Bureau.  The Mountaineers have good courses as well but I don't think they fit your objectives or schedule.

If you're already an outdoor guide and you want to work in technical terrain professionally then you might want to consider taking courses from someone under the IFMGA umbrella, most likely in New Zealand for you.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
