SKI QUESTION Atomic Backland Hybrid Skins (mohair) Are Not Sticky

Hi there, ski related question: I have a new pair of Atomic Backland Hybrid Skins (mohair) and they seem to have lost all stickiness. I have used them probably no more than 8 times. Does anyone know how to make them sticky again or if there is a type of “glue” that I can apply to them?

Thank you,

Ironing them will refresh the glue, use a piece of parchment paper between the skin and the iron to keep the iron from getting glue stuck to it. There is (or was) a video describing this on the G3 website. If that doesn't work, it is possible to reglue skins and Black Diamond (and probably a few other companies) sell skin glue. How are you storing your skins? That can have an effect on how long the glue lasts.

Hybrid skin glue is different then older generation skin glue. At least for Contour skins, they sell a cleaning spray or wipe. It refreshes the skin glue. I'm not sure if ironing is correct for hybrid skins.

Thank you so much! This solved everything for me!

if you had to do this after only a couple of uses, make sure your ski bases are fully scraped from wax. I have been using hybrid skins for 8 years or so and you shouldn't have to wash them after just a couple of uses.

Daniel, see the comments at https://skimo.co/contour-hybrid-cleaning-spray
which might be useful.

Thank you. How do you usually wax the base of your skis if using hybrid skins?

As sam describes, scrape away extra wax from the ski, so it doesn’t come off onto your skins. After this I usually use a nylon or horsehair brush to polish and then a microfiber cloth for full cleanup. Or a rotobrush on a drill and a microfiber cloth or vacuum.

And, of course, use a waxing iron to apply the wax.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
