Alabama Hills camping
|
I know this topic may have been covered, but could use some help on what the current camping situation is at Alabama Hills. I heard it was closed, but not sure what the details are. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks. |

Everything west of Movie Rd. is closed to camping. There are spots to the east. If you go midweek you'll find a spot, probably. As the weather warms, weekends will be packed. There are some campgrounds in the area -- Tuttle Creek and Portegee Joe. Further afield you can find dispersed camping and commute in. Some sort of reservation system is in the works. The new restrictions have helped A LOT. Lots of folks work hard to maintain this area. It was being loved to death. Even with the new changes, we frequently pick up lots of doodoo paper. Pack it out and clean up after others, too. Thanks! |

Thanks for the updates and info. |

We spent Wednesday and Thursday night at Tuttle Creek Campground last week and it was pretty empty. Maybe 4 or 5 other campers. There is a camp host there and he keeps the bathrooms super clean. We were road testing the Van we just built out. |

Ryan is correct. ALL campsites are now fully labeled. Enjoy! Cold and windy AF right now. |

See https://www.essrp.org/camping for camping info. Was on a FB page for SoCal climbing. |

If you can’t find any spots in Alabama Hills, go across the valley to Haystack Rock. There are tons of tent spots scattered amongst the sage brush. Pack everything out. |
