DPS Phantom “wax” screwing up ski bases?

I’ve had my touring skis with the DPS Phantom thing for a little under a year now. I had it applied last spring. Skiing last spring, seemed to work fine, no complaints. This winter my bases seem extremely dry, so dry that skin glue residue continues to attach to my bases. My skins are new Pomoca skins as of last spring, in great shape with good glue.

I’ve also noticed the Phantom makes my bases *extremely* globby in wet sun baked snow. Today I was able to walk uphill with the huge glob that caked to my bases.

I took them to SkiMoCo in SLC, they used a base cleaning get the skin glue off, but the same thing happened again. Another ski shop said that bases with the Phantom doesn’t take a wax well either (although I have not tried waxing over it myself yet).

Supposedly you can get a base grind to refresh the bases and the Phantom?

Has anyone here has similar problems or found any solutions?

Thanks!

I have a couple pairs of DPS (99s and 112s) that have had Phantom since 2017 from the Kickstarter. I applied Phantom with the idea to use it for occasions such as long multiday tours when wax might get depleted.  Otherwise I ALWAYS wax on top of the Phantom application and do not notice any difference/difficulty in waxing the bases. I also use Pomoca skins.

This may or may not solve your issue, but I recommend waxing. Phantom is okay, but I don't buy the idea that it's better than wax. DPS have Ptex 9001, the highest grade of race room base material available.  It typically requires a lot of waxing to avoid drying out.  If you haven't already, call DPS and see what they say.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
