Tenaya Mastia sizing?

haven’t had the chance to try them on in person but wanna try them out regardless. if you’re familiar with mastias and solutions/miuras, what’s the sizing difference on yours? 

i have 44.5 solutions so i’m thinking 43.5 for mastias but wanna see if i can get some more opinions, thanks! 

I have a pair of the mastia’s, and honestly I love them. I wear a 10.5 street shoe, and mine are a 43 1/4. Mine have been re-soled, they were a HAIR bigger before the re-sole, but they’ve been relatively snug on my foot both before and after the resole. I don’t know anything about solutions but I think the tenaya’s are a pretty awesome shoe and a good fit for me!

For the Mastias, I size down 1.5 from my street shoe, and I know other people who go down 2 full sizes

I go down 1.5 sizes from street and could have probably gone down 2 if I was willing to do the plastic bag trick. In Solutions, I go down only 1 size from street, but I am unusual in that regard (the Solutions are too narrow for me in the toe so I can't downsize them much).

The Mastia has a wider fit in the toe box than Solutions, the toe is more rounded and less pointy. They also stretch out quite a bit in my experience (at least a half size).

+1 to Prav’s statement on Solutions vs Mastia’s toebox fitment.

For reference, my current Solutions are US8.5/EU41 which are tight enough that I take them off after a boulder problem. Meanwhile my Mastias are US8/EU40.7 and have a snug performance fit but I can still keep them on for a while. The Mastias appear to be more pliable and I was able to fit into a US7.5/EU40 if I wanted the same foot crunching equivalent of the solution size mentioned above.

Fwiw, I wear street shoes in US9/EU42.

Definitely size down, both my pairs have stretched enough that I wish I'd bought slightly smaller ones.

I'm 11.5 wide in street shoes. I definitely will buy another pair of Mastias, but I would not go larger than 44.
- First pair were 44.5, cause that's what Rock and Resole had on hand.
- Second pair I tried to size down more but still ended up with 44.5 because the website I bought through had them labeled as 11 and the next size in stock was a 10 or something

How much stretch is there width wise? I'm looking for my next shoe. I was wearing Scarpa Instinct S in 40 which were a touch too small and Dragos in 40.5. I just tried on Mastias in 5.5 (38.8), and I feel like there is a bit of room at the end of the shoe between my toe and the rubber and can move my big toe, but it's a bit jammed on my small toe side.

A ton of stretch width and height wise, around a half size or so. I also wear Instincts in size EU40 (snug but not overly tight fit) and Mastia in EU38 feel very tight and hard to put on when fresh out of the box, but very comfy like warmup shoes when broken in. In comparison my Instincts feel basically the same when fresh vs broken in and resoled several times. 

TBH I would pick Instincts over Mastia in basically any scenario except maybe comfort for prolonged wear.

Interesting, I actually felt like my Instincts broke in quite a bit, I could barely get them on when I first got them. Just to confirm, you had the slip on Instinct or the Velcro? 

I am actually contemplating buying the Instinct in 40.5, but I just heard such good things about the Mastia that I wanted to give it a try. The Mastia was tough to put on but it wasn't an absolute struggle. 

I have both the velcro and slip on instincts. 

Mastias are comfy shoes once broken in, but for the heel and toe hook and edging and ...well, basically everything, I like Instincts better. But that's just me

I just got a pair. I (fortunately) got to try on the shoes in store because there's absolutely no way I would've picked the right size otherwise. These needed to be downsized a comical amount. I wear 41.5/42 in regular shoes, and settled on a 38 with the mastias. 38.75 would have likely been okay, there was just a little too much wiggle room in the heel.

You're the first person I've found that pretty much sized down as far as I did. I'm a EU 43 street shoe. Had EU 41 La Sportiva Mistrals. And just got the Tenaya Mastia in a size EU 40. I hold them up next to my foot and they look ridiculously small. Yes, they're very snug and I can't wear them for mor then 10 minutes (literally straight out of the box), but they're more comfortable than my Mistrals were right out of the box, and those are now about half a size too big - I have air in the toe box and empty space in the front when I try to "grip" on small holds.

How do your Mastia's compare to your actual foot size? And do you feel like they're going to stretch at all?

Despite how comfy they are, I feel like they do need to stretch for them to be ideal for me.
