Toe welt crack/resole/semi auto bail options

I have a pair of Spantiks I've been using for a couple of years and I noticed this year the plastic toe welts are starting to crack. The boots are in fine shape otherwise.

1)Has anyone ever figured out a way to repair the plastic toe welt? Epoxy? Super Glue? It doesn't inspire much confidence.

2)Resoles to repair the toe welt seems possible, but somewhat improbable due to lack of sole availability with the toe welts. Anyone have any stories or insight?

3)I'm happy to switch to semi auto toe bails. Currently I have Blade Runners and the toe bail is too narrow for the Spantik. Do you guys know if another brand makes a wider toe bail?

Eventually the answer is new boots, but I don't want to throw these out yet. Thanks!

Hard to tell how deep that crack is. I’d check with a cobbler who fixes these kinds of things. There’s recommendations in the forums here.

If it were me, and I had to fix it myself and couldn’t take it in, I’d repair it with fiberglass. However if you haven’t done something like that before it’s probably not worth the effort.

The TPU toe welt is cracked through only right near the drawn arrowhead. On the order of a mm or two. I did find a cobbler, TBD if they even have soles available, but with shipping the total is roughly $200. Keep those good ideas coming! I'm mostly interested if anyone knows of wider semi-auto toe bails. Thanks!

Petzl toe basket (flexlock)) inside dimensions are 85mm at the wider/rear and 62mm at the narrower/front aspect of the wire.

Thanks Eli!

For reference, Cassin toe bail is 79mm at its widest and 68mm in the front.

just adding another point of note. I tried the cassin semi auto toe bail with a pair of G20s. The toe bail fits in just fine, and the crampon can be seated tight on the boot, and it was climbing well; however, numerous times the toe bail eventually pops out. The spantik toe is too large and puts pressure on the toe bail to expand outwards. The tip of the bail wire, after the 90deg elbow that goes through the crampon, is too short to maintain contact and eventually pops.

Anyone use the Grivel C2N Bail on G20s and/or spantiks?

There will be sportiva certified resolers who will be able to replace that TPU part. If you're in the right area a skilled ski boot fitter may even be able to cobble together something.

Have a pair of Nepal Evos that the toe pieces similarly cracked on, and have been good ice climbing boots for years afterwards (never had an issue losing crampons due to it). That said, they have recently cracked more significantly, so I was looking to replace the boots, but Seb gave me some hope I could resuscitate them, fingers crossed.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
