Thanks ASCA for buying up all the Climb Tech Mussys lol.  I just got a great email from the ASACA saying they met their goal for raising anchor funds and there was a picture with crates of Climb Tech Mussys that they bought.  No wonder they are never in stock.

Seriously though, thanks for all the good work you all do.

They just came in on Wednesday. As far as I know we didn't buy them all, Climbtech just doesn't have their website updated. They did say they have multiple orders from others that they were filling, so I don't know if they have sold all of the remaining out.

And you're welcome! These hooks will go to crags all across the country, the first 400 are already out the door!

I bought 50 in person several days ago. Another Vegas local bought a bunch too. Can't remember how many.

Climbtech was bought by another company and so far as I know most recreational stuff is going to disappear. As the top anchor hook is more on the recreational side... better safe than sorry.

Sorry, do you know who bought ClimbTech?

They were bought by Werner in June 2021.

I feel like the rumor that they were going to stop selling recreational climbing stuff has been going on for years. Any new evidence of this since they were bought by Werner? I really hope not.
Kind of surprised no manufacturer has made a knock-off of the climbtech mussy hooks since they clearly sell like hotcakes.

We (climbers access society on Vancouver Island) just bought a couple hundred ClimbTech top anchor hooks, so they’re available, ASCA didn’t clean em out!

Called Climbtech this morning. The customer service representative confirmed that they will no longer be selling anything climbing related. CT stated they will not be manufacturing any more climbing related items and will not even be selling stock items or what’s left of climbing related items. Some of these items include permadraws, hangars, anchor rings. This is due to recently being bought out by Werner. However they did state they will be continuing to make the wire gate mussy hooks due to them not being in the climbing classification. (These are currently out of stock but expect to come into inventory in 2-3 weeks)

Dang that is terrible but at least they're not getting ride of the top anchor hooks.

So no more wave bolts or RBs or bolt hangers?!

I didn’t ask them about RBs but I imagine those will still be available, but I did ask about bolts and hangars. They told me they will not be making them nor selling what stock they have left.

RBs in 3/4" and up will be available, their bread and butter. 1/2" is climbing not industrial, so its very likely going bye-bye.

Why does one buy a company called Climbtech and then stop it from making climbing equipment?

Is the buyer the Werner that makes ladders?

The thing to remember is that there is little specific climbing manufacturering. Bolts, quick links, chain, and a lot of anchoring hardware isn’t designed for rock climbing. I would imagine that musseys are useful for towing applications. There is also the machinery they could be interested in.

Err I think the machinery belongs to a company in Taiwan.

Has ASCA, Fixe, or any other company/group with an interest in mussys reached out to Werner (or specifically their overseas manufacturer/ or perhaps competitors?) about supplying mussy hooks to them directly? It seems like there is enough interest in beefy hooks like mussys with wire gates that there ought to be some room to make a lil $$$ or even have some competition (are mussys even patented?). Hell, I'd pay a couple more dollars for a mussy hook if they were available more frequently. There are a decent number of climbing companies that make hangers but few make lowering hardware, especially gated/open systems for single pitch.

The ClimbTech removable anchor page is interesting.

Any idea why a 1/2" RB is $84.00 and a 3/4" RB is $141.75?

Is this simply a demand thing?

It's really confusing why others aren't making wire gate mussy hooks, it's pretty simple!  I just made one myself using a $3.49 mussy hook from erigging, a standard 2mm bicycle spoke, and a 3/32" cobalt drill bit:

Looks awesome Jim! I may need to try that, thanks a bunch for sharing.

Original version and second painted version using slightly thicker spoke (2.3mm touring/ tandem bike specific), which required 1/8" drill bit:

The 2mm spoke was a little easier to bend and seems strong enough.

Total cost was $3.49 +~$1.50 per spoke, so I'm sure someone getting wholesale pricing could match climbtech prices and make money.  Please steal this idea!

Too cool! I'm going to try on some regular old biners to test out. Thanks for the idea!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.

Fixed Hardware: Bolts & Anchors
