The rain gauge is at the visitor's center area, so it's not measuring the actual weather in the canyons. But it's the only gauge we have, and at least gives you some idea if you should even bother. Takes at least a couple days after 0.10+" rain for all the rock to be dry. Exposed areas that see a lot of sun perhaps less time. Include good quality color photos and a detailed location. GPS coordinates are the best and can be found on your phone’s map. If GPS isn’t available, as detailed of a location as possible with miles from trailhead, distance off trail, cardinal direction, and approximate height will help them find the graffiti. You can also report graffiti to the BLM’s Law Enforcement Officers at 702-293-8932. Do not confront anyone you see or suspect of this crime but do note details to provide to the officers Friends of Red Rock graffiti removal You can help remove graffiti from Red Rock in several ways: 1. Become a member of Friends of Red Rock Canyon to support our ongoing efforts at preserving and protecting this very special place. 2. You can also join our Graffiti Removal Team and become a part of our work to keep Red Rock Canyon a graffiti free zone. Additional volunteers are being trained to remove graffiti and will be working hard to restore the park to its natural beauty. 3. Send your vandalism photos and the GPS location (use UTM NAD 83 if possible) to:preserve@friendsredrock.org. Route Development (Bolting): Do not bolt in the wilderness areas. Here is a interactive map that shows the wilderness areas where bolting is not allowed. 1. Don't bolt in wilderness areas except for ASCA bolt/anchor replacement efforts. No bolting at Mt Charleston, big portion of La Madre and almost all of Red Rock, with the exception of calico I & II 2. Don't bolt within 50' of petroglyphs 3. Use only stainless steel hardware with the appropriate length and diameter for sandstone 4. Don't add bolts to established routes 5. Minimize the use of hardware whenever possible 6. Consider painting hardware for camouflage in high traffic areas |

To add to the top of the OP post, this, or something similar to try to (probably mostly unsuccessfully) cut down on the amount of timed entry reservation and late exit questions: Scenic Drive Hours Nov – Feb – 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Late exit pass system The late exit pass system has changed from what it was in the past where you just called a number and left your details. Now you have to also go through recreation.gov to get one. All the details are here: https://www.recreation.gov/activitypass/f4d17453-0cba-11eb-b57c-4a047fce61ec Just do it. Its easy to get delayed on big multipitch days what with potential crowds, rope snags, etc... On the plus side, its $0.50 (cheap!) Don't count on having clear enough cell service in the loop to do it while you are out there on some route. Just do it in advance. Where you type in the route you will do, I'd also consider typing any backup route you have in mind. Its late exit from the loop that it is covering... if you didn't access your climb from driving into and parking in the loop, it isn't required. Lottery / Permit for a route No such system is in place. Chill. When you are driving West from Las Vegas out to Red Rock Canyon on Charleston Blvd, Calico Basin is the area you will see on the right, with some houses. Kraft Boulders is accessed from here, as well as Cannibal Crag, Red Riding Wall, Sunny and Steep, etc... In the future this area may become gated and require a permit for those who don't live there. Lots of controversy around this. For now though, you can pretty much access this area whenever, BUT the main parking areas for Red Springs Picnic area and to access Kraft Mountain do have gates and posted hours. There is some options for parking outside of these lots. There is also many people living here who are quite fed up with climbers parking to block their driveways, etc... so if you are going to try to park in this are for night bouldering in the summer, please try to be reasonable. Camping, including car camping is not permitted here. Accessing climbing without using the Scenic Loop There are many dirt parking areas along the highway that you can park at and hike into Red Rock to climb. Typically this only makes sense for accessing climbs in Oak Creek, Mt Wilson, First Creek, Southern Outcrops. These are not subject to the Scenic Loop hours or require any kind of permit or fee. Don't camp here. Thus you can start earlier than 6am and/or finish much later than normal if you have massive objectives, are trying to get in front of groups entering the scenic loop at 6am, are just not confident of your speed, etc... Black Velvet Canyon, Mud Spring, Windy Peak, Southern Outcrops... Some accessed via parking off the highway or with a short random dirt road... Or via the Late Nite trail system parking lot and a decently long dirt road. Also don't camp anywhere around here. |

Great info Travis The late exit pass is $0.50 The loop road reservation time slot allows for entry up to 30 minutes in advance, so if you have a 10:00am-11:00am entry window, you can arrive at the gate as early as 9:30am to get in |
