Just moved to Marquette MI and have heard stories of people ski touring up here but have yet to meet anyone for confirmation. Thought about hogs back but need more snow and the only other thought is the porkys but would want some better intel before I drive that far for nothing. I have also asked around to see if Marquette Mtn does uphill ski access but no one seems to know and I haven’t had time to stop and ask to be laughed at. Any information would be great. Thank you.

The Porkies are good, I used to do some laps off the west side of the tower into the woods years ago. Do you have a sled?  If you do, check out the western Hurion mountains.  But, bring a partner, and pack a full kit if a sled dies, its a long way out in the winter time.

Do you have more exact locations of where to park or a more refined area of places to skin in for either Hurons or porkies. I just moved from Nevada and always skinned in to my mountain objectives out there so no sled. I have a  full avy kit if that’s what you mean by pack a full kit. Not sure an avy kit would be warranted out here but ya never know. Any more specifics on your locations would be great.

For the western Hurons, without a sled I wouldn't do it. You would have to park a really, really long flat skin away from where the skiing would be.  And by kit, I meant gear to spend the night out with if your sled broke down, not avi gear.  Its a long ways back there.

For the porkies, I would just park at the ski hill and skin up the western most groomer to get up to the tower, or else just ride the lift and ski off the tower as well.  that being said, its been years since I have skied up there.

Hit up DownWind sports for some beta as well.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
