Are you a climber if you don't competitively jug fixed lines with your gri gri?

All I want for Hanukkah is for this show to fail.

I didn’t expect this show to follow the typical framework of reality TV production, but I didn’t know what I was talking about. This sounds scripted and cringe to the max.

The jugging comp sold me. Also no plastic? That's surprising and a positive.

Not gonna lie, I'm not going to subscribe to HBO for it, but I'll download it and watch it.

Wtf is this?  "The climb" looks like it's on the fast track to the meme thread.

Hopefully it’s the hero we need to revive that thread to it's former glory

Not sure if I should be sad or happy for Wadi Rum and the influx of climbers about to go visit. Seems like highlighting a fringe climbing area might blow it out. Or maybe it's not on the fringe anymore...? I've never been, but perhaps they want the tourist traffic and I should be happy for them?

I was flying home for the holidays today and saw every TV screen on the plane had an ad for glamping in Wadi Rum so maybe it's already popular/blown out.

Yes, they are indeed desperate for influx of tourists. The economy there is based on tourism, and was devastated by COVID. It is probably a little self centered for climbers to wish that Wadi Rum remain an obscure backwater, especially climbers who have never been there.
The world does not revolve around “our” climbing areas.

Somehow, I really don’t think that Sharma is doing this for the money. He owns two mega gyms in two countries after all. I would guess that he’s doing it for exposure and publicity to promote his brand.

Looks pukey but I will watch at least one.

Lisa Bonet in the car with Chris Sharma, Jason Monoa and Zoe Kravetz was a YouTube high point.

Sharma seems like a highly intelligent person and businessman. Perhaps maximizing his profits isn't his priority, but for certain he's leveraged his talent and connections fostered over the last 25 years and that has certainly payed dividends. Good for him, I hope he gets his pay day.

It was more entertaining and substantial than any climbing video.

looks much better than that video about the girls climbing a cell phone tower does. Or that one where the guy chases a girl up a cliff.
